Three Reasons to Get Thermage NOW

Tighter skin, smoother jawline, improved neck appearance. One treatment, no downtime.
Can this really be possible?
Yes! Thermage works by stimulating the formation of new collagen while simultaneously causing your existing collagen to contract and tighten. Thermage has been the gold standard in contouring and tightening for over 15 years because it delivers. About Face Skin Care has been perfecting this treatment for over 10-years — this isn’t something new, it’s something that works.
1. Tighten and Smooth Saggy Skin
How does it tighten and smooth so well? Thermage uses Radio Frequency (RF) technology to deliver heat deep to the dermal layer. Sounds a little scary, but it’s not!
“Volumetric Heat” is carefully delivered to older collagen-fibers (that have grown lax and saggy over the years).  Volumetric Heat is a complicated sounding term that means measured, consistent and targeted. This energy causes your aging collagen fibers to contract, giving the skin an immediate lift.
One of our favorite things to show the patient their results, halfway through the treatment. It’s great to see their response when they see the lift already achieved on the treated half!
2. Stimulate The Growth Of Collagen
While the immediate lift is great to see, the full results continue to improve over the next 6-months. New collagen is stimulated to grow. (We all stop making new collagen around the age of 26, and it’s generally around this time that people see skin start to change.)
Collagen stimulation is the goal of rejuvenation, the new collagen that is stimulated will further tighten and smooth the skin. Your Thermage treatment will silently continue to deliver results over the next 3-6 months!
3. Get Your “You” Back!
In addition to the face, neck and eyes, Thermage is an extremely versatile treatment that can be used on multiple body-areas where loose-skin and sagging cause concerns. The post-baby tummy area is particularly well suited for Thermage. While a woman’s body will naturally try and restore itself during the months after having a baby, many mothers feel the skin on their post-baby tummies could have a little help. Thermage on the abdomen will help tighten the skin and help with its elasticity.
Arms, knees and buttocks also respond well to Thermage. At About Face Skin Care we have the Body Handpiece that can be used on suitable parts of the body. With a larger surface area, body Thermage treatments can be faster and more comfortable.
Pro Tip: How To Get The Most Out Of Your Treatments
Patients always want to know how to get the best results.
To get the most out of your Thermage it is important to be well hydrated. That doesn’t mean have a glass of water in the morning before treatment! It means being conscious of your water intake for at least two days before and the day of treatment. Those famous 6-8 glasses of water everyone recommends you drink daily are important, not just for your general health, but RF (Radio Frequency) treatments, like Thermage, work better when you are properly hydrated. Also, remember if you drink coffee and caffeinated drinks like Green Tea, Black Tea or Coke you should be drinking even more water as these drinks dehydrate. Well hydrated skin also looks better!  (This is a good practice even when not thinking about Thermage!)
Improved Skin-Tightening Treatments
Over the years the comfort level of Thermage treatments has greatly improved. Thermage’s vibrating hand-piece and developments in its treatment tips make for the most comfortable Thermage treatments. However, the areas where nerve-endings lie close to the surface of the skin and the neck continue to be the most sensitive. The discomfort one feels is a brief flash of heat. As soon as the “pulse” stops the feeling is gone. The pulse is over as soon as you detect it. Your experienced About Face provider will adjust your treatment settings according to your feedback.
With hundreds of treatments and over ten years’ experience you can be guaranteed About Face will give you the best Thermage treatment possible.

How To Fix Thin Eyebrows without Makeup! Thick, Dark Brows Naturally

Want to know how to fix your eyebrows without makeup? I’ll show you how to grow eyebrows fast so they look youthful & filled-in even without eyebrow makeup.
Learn about a drug-free natural eyebrow growth serum that fills-in sparse brows and (this is the best part) naturally darkens them without dyes.

Are your brows thinning, fading, or losing their tails?
Whether your brows are over-plucked or they just thinned out with age, there is still hope…You can grow eyebrows faster with a natural, inexpensive eyebrow growth serum.
I found an easy way to make your natural brows look youthful & fuller even without makeup. And it doesn’t require drugs with side-effects or expensive procedures.
But most people haven’t heard of it, because it was initially meant for the hairs on your HEAD… (Even though it’s just as effective on your brows!)
Why thicker-fuller eyebrows are desirable
Fuller eyebrows frame the face for a more youthful look. Thicker natural brows can make your face look younger and more approachable. They also play a significant role in how you communicate with others.
A study from Tennessee Tech showed eyebrows have a huge impact on whether you look friendly or threatening, approachable, or angry.1
Researchers concluded:
“Between eyes and eyebrows, the results showed that essentially, the eyebrows were the more important part of the face, ultimately determining which emotion is communicated.”
So, if your brows are sparse, you may be giving folks the wrong idea about your feelings towards them. Also, studies have shown that eyebrows have a big impact on how old you look.2
Researchers conducted a study of 763 makeup-free women and found that…
Those with prominent brows appeared younger compared to those with sparse or thin eyebrows.3
Researchers suspect that it’s because full, dark brows create a contrast in your facial features offering a more flattering look.
Darker, fuller brows are especially crucial if your eyelashes, eye color, skin tone, and hair has started to fade too. Rich, prominent eyebrows can prevent that “washed-out” look.
How fix thin eyebrows – current options
Up until now, the only way to get fuller-looking natural eyebrows without using makeup or eyebrow pencils are Microblading or Latisse.
What is Microblading
This is when a technician cuts into your skin with tiny blades and injects it with pigment… essentially giving you a “semi-permanent tattoo” of an eyebrow.
Now, many people get this procedure because it lasts over a year. But that’s not necessarily a good thing because, if you don’t love how it turns out, you’re stuck with it.
Not to mention, this procedure can leave you with unsightly scar tissue and can even damage your hair follicles, making your natural brows even sparser.4
What is Latisse
Latisse is a prescription prostaglandin drug that has impressive results because it does work. But, because prostaglandins work by manipulating your hormones, it is also associated with side effects including:
Hollowing of skin, creating a sunken appearance 5
Irritation ranging from mild itchiness to severe pain 6
Darkening of the skin, creating an unsightly brown pigment that can be permanent 7
Redness of the thin tissue over the white part of the eye (conjunctiva)
Itchy, red eyes
Dry eyes
Darkened eyelids
Hair growth around the eyes if the medication regularly runs or drips off the eyelids
And surprisingly, many over-the-counter brow serums contain certain forms of Prostaglandins too. It is usually listed as isopropyl cloprostenate, so check your brow serum’s ingredient list to see if it contains prostaglandin.
How serious are the side-effects of prostaglandin? Well, it’s been BANNED in Canada due to the side effects.
This is scary and surprised me! I’ve been using Latisse for about a year, and I noticed that the skin around my top and bottom eyelids had turned a reddish-brown color. Now I have to apply a concealer around the rim of my lids, or I look like I’ve been crying!!
And, since Latisse didn’t darken my eyebrows (like the ad says it does), I have to dye it, or they look faded. This dying process leaves me with itchy, scabby eyebrows…I guess I’m allergic to the dye too.
How to grow eyebrows fast and darken them naturally
Brow Boost Redensifying Serum By City Beauty is a drug-free eyebrow growth serum that not only helps grow eyebrows fast, but also helps to darken them without dyes.
City Beauty says:
“This serum contains a botanical blend that is natural and safe for brows and eyes. It contains hydrolyzed keratin, several powerful peptides, Myristoyl Pentapeptide, and is free from side-effects”.
One ingredient I’m thrilled about is the biomimetic peptide that targets light or grey hairs and makes them appear darker, giving your brows a more defined look. I no longer have to dye my eyebrows.
In lab tests, biomimetic peptide decreased the amount of hairs that looked grey by an astonishing 81%!8,9
That’s probably why so many users reported:
Their existing grey strands looked darker
The new brow hairs growing in looked darker
And they saw fewer grey hairs in their brows overall
And this serum does not any contain dyes. So, the “brow-darkening” effect is entirely natural.
Of course, there are plenty of other enhancing serums that contain peptides. In fact, some use one or two of the same peptides as Brow Boost. But since peptides are expensive, these other serums usually contain only one or two or, at most, three peptides.
Brow Boost contains a total of 10 different peptides… all at the recommended concentrations and sourced from the world’s top labs.
So, if you want to know how to fix thin eyebrows safely without spending too much money, consider this natural eyebrow growth serum from City Beauty.
Will my eyebrows get thicker?
I’m just started on my second tube so it’s a bit too soon to say since City Beauty says it takes up to 4 weeks to see full results.
But I am happy to say those little grey eyebrow hairs are no longer there. I used to pluck them out, but now I don’t see any growing back. Also, I’m glad to stop using Latisse. My discolored eyelid skin is starting to look normal again!
I think I finally found a natural way to darken and fix thin eyebrows without drugs, side-effects, or dyes!  I’ll keep you all posted on my progress with pictures.
And, always remember, City Beauty offers a 60-day money-back guarantee – which is enough time to see if this eyebrow growth serum will work for you. Just make sure to keep your receipt.

Eyeliner Makeup for Women Over 40 – Tips for Bigger Brighter Eyes

By Linda Robison

Eyeliner makeup can do wonders for mature eyes. It can make your eyes look bigger, brighter and more lively.
So why are so many women over 40 afraid of using eyeliner? Many feel that eyeliners will make eyes look small, accentuate wrinkles, dark circles or crepey eyelid skin.
But before you give up, try some of these gel and pencil eyeliner tips and tricks first.
P.S. Want to know what makes your eyes brighter? Don’t miss the step by step eyeliner tutorial at the end of this page.
Are there too many rules about using eyeliner? Has it become too complicated? Well I think a little eyeliner – applied correctly – can enhance mature eyes and make the whites look brighter and lively again.
I love wearing eyeliner! But if you’re over 40 it can be tricky. And there are hundreds of makeup artists who tell you the wrong and right way to apply it.
However, I don’t like to follow someone else’s rules. I do what works best for me. I think eyeliner looks sexy! If you agree, then try some of these tips…
Is there a wrong or right way to apply eyeliner?

Many blogs or YouTube videos seem to have the same eyeliner makeup tips for mature eyes; don’t wear dark eyeliner, don’t wear too much eyeliner, or skip it all together.
Yes, the rules may have changed for those of us over 50, but that doesn’t mean we can’t wear eyeliner at all.
Here are some eyeliner makeup tricks to consider

After playing around with different techniques, here are some eyeliner application styles that work well for me:

Wrong:
We’re told it’s wrong to wear black or dark eyeliner if we’re over 40 or 50. Experts say it’s too harsh and may accentuate lines and dark circles.
Right:
I wear a small amount of black eyeliner, but I usually apply it inside the upper eyelid rim, in-between lashes and sometimes right along the lash line.

Wrong:
Experts will tell to you never apply dark liner to lower lids. It will exaggerate wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles and even make your eyes look smaller.
Right:
I apply a small amount of black liner to the outer 1/3 of the inner lower lid. But, I never draw the line all the way into the corners of the eyes.

Natural looking eyeliner tips for wrinkled eyelid skin
What if every eyeliner you’ve tried accentuated wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes?
Then stop using a pencil or crayon and try a gel eyeliner makeup in a lighter color. Better yet, try a creamy-gel eyeliner like the one I’m using in the picture below. I’m using an eye makeup that is creamy but goes on with the easy of a gel.

Here I’m using an gel eyeliner makeup in Golden Carmel, a caramel brown with a golden shimmer. This eyeliner gel makeup is called the Any Wear Cream. It’s waterproof, smudge proof and comes in several different colors. Click here to see more…
This natural looking eyeliner tip is perfect if you have a lot of wrinkles or crepey skin around your eyes since it’s waterproof and smear-proof, it’s less likely to migrate and settle into the crinkles and lines around the eyes.
And it doesn’t dry immediately, so you have a few seconds to fix any mistakes easily. That’ important for many women (like me) who have a hard time using liquid or gel liners. I can never seem to draw on a nice smooth line!
But after a few seconds, once it sets, it stays put!
A versatile eyeliner makeup
It’s called the Any Wear Cream because you can use it anywhere you want a pop of color, highlight, sheen or shimmer.
For example this cream can be used as a:
cheek highlighter
eyeshadow
eyeliner
lip shimmer
Here owner of Mommy Makeup Debra shows how you can use the Anywhere Cream as an eyeshadow, lip color, and cheek color/highlighter.
[embedded content]
What’s nice about this color is that it accentuates the eyes without having to use dark eyeliner and brings a lift to the upper eye area! It’s also a great eyeliner color for blondes.

It comes in 15 other gorgeous colors. Click here to see them all!
How to make eyes brighter with eyeliner makeup
What makes your eyes look bigger and brighter? Choosing the right eyeliner color can make all the difference in world, regardless of your eye color.  There are certain shades of dark green (like hunter green) that can really make the whites of your eyes pop!
[embedded content]

What about using white eyeliner makeup
Another eyeliner makeup trick for mature eyes that really works to brighten and open them up is applying a bit creamy white eyeliner inside or along the rim of the lower eyelids.
How to apply white eyeliner

There are many ways to apply white eyeliner, but here is what I like to do…Run a creamy white eyeliner pencil either inside the lower eyelid or right under the eyelash line.
Note: Play around with this to see which one works best for you. Some women find that applying white eyeliner to only the inside 1/3 of the eyelid works best. Personally, I don’t like to draw the eyeliner all the way out to the outside corners of the eye. But, you should play around and see what works best for you.
Best white eyeliner for the waterline
Originally, I was using a cheap drugstore brand, wooded pencil eyeliner, but it was too white and it didn’t last long. Now I switched to Maybelline TattooStudio Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil. It’ll last all day and works very well on the waterline.

Final eyeliner tips
To get the best look for your eyes, you really need to play around and experiment with different types of eyeliner makeup to see what works for you. And don’t forget to give waterproof gel eyeliners a try. Many women find them much easier to use than liquid eyeliners.
And, find out what type of eyeliner is best to use on the waterline for contact wearers. Many women have issues with certain eyeliners that leave residue on their lenses.
Hopefully at the end of the day you’ll find the best combination of eyeliner makeup tips that’ll make your eyes just pop!

Lip Care Tips: Non-Invasive Treatments for Younger Lips

Ahead, you’ll find 5 anti-aging lip care tips for a younger-looking mouth.
How often do you think about anti-aging lip care?

Most of us don’t worry about upper lip and mouth wrinkles until it’s too late. Once the skin around your lips starts looking dry, crepey or wrinkled – the damage has started and it’ll be that much harder to improve it.
From lip masks, balms, correcting gloss, and hydrating mouth patches – these non-invasive, no-downtime, inexpensive lip care tips can help soften lip wrinkles, vertical lines and improve skin texture around your mouth.
Volume loss, parched skin, and lines around the lips can be frustrating! You can’t hide it and lipstick draws more attention due to feathering and bleeding. It can be so depressing!
But we have solutions that can help protect, smooth and improve the skin around and on your lips. And not all healthy lip products are boring, check out this gorgeous red lip cream that goes on like a cream, but stays put all day! Click here…

So start taking care of your lips now! Because it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when those lines will crepe up around your mouth! I only wish I had followed this advice 20 years ago.

Who should try these anti-aging lip care tips
Anyone who wants to look a little younger. It’s amazing how wrinkles and lines around the lips and mouth can add up to 10 years to your appearance!
Whether you’re 30 something and just starting to see faint lip lines or over 50 and have deep vertical lip groves, these anti-aging tips can help replenish, hydrate and protect the skin around your lips and mouth.
Even if you been following the lip line reduction treatments suggested here and are starting to see results – you should add one or more of these tips to your daily routine to help slow lip skin aging and improve your chances of getting better results.
Anti-Aging lip care tips
The skin around the eyes and lips wrinkle faster than the rest of the face. This is due to thin, delicate skin wrapped around strong orbital muscles (mouth and eye muscles) which are continually contracting – causing the skin to fold, over and over again.
When you combine this with the fact that we begin to lose collagen in our 20s, it’s easy to understand why wrinkles develop in these areas faster than others.
What can you do?
Just as you would use a specially formulated eye products for anti-aging prevention, do the same for your lips too.
Here are a few suggestions of different types of lip products we’ve tried and liked. There are plenty out there – so play around until you finds ones that work best for you.
Lip moisturizers

Patchology Lip Service Gloss-to-Balm Treatment
Why just moisturize when you can protect lips against aging by using creams that contains peptides and Atelocollagen to help increases lip volume and reduce appearance of lip bleed lines.
This cream has staying power, so if you apply a thicker layer it can double as a lip mask at night because it stays put.
And, if you’re currently getting professional lip fillers, this cream can help enhance the effects of your treatments.
2. Mouth patches

Flash Patch Hydrating Lip Gels
These lip gel patches provide quick but intensive treatment because they contain niacinamide, peptides, green tea, and honey.
They’re quick and easy – because unlike homemade masks, all essential ingredients are infused in a gel patch that releases nutrients right to the targeted area of your upper lips. These are the best lip gels for your money!
SIO Beauty Lip Patch
This one may be a bit of a splurge $$. But works so well, I have to mention it.
Sio Beauty makes incredible lip patches that offer long-term hydrating treatment. These easy to use collagen-infused gel patches go around your mouth like a smooth sheet mask.
I’ve tried skin patches and love the way they make my skin look. But I feel they might be expensive for everyday use. However, I won’t give them up and use them once or twice a week in addition to my other lip treatments.
3. Lip/mouth masks

DIY – Homemade Lip Mask:
You can easily make your own lip mask to use in-between using professional masks. My favorite and super easy lip mask is to combine:
¼ tsp of sugar
¼ tsp of oil (your choice, see below for suggestions)
¼ tsp or less honey (optional). Honey makes the mask a bit thicker
apply mask around your mouth – make sure to cover upper lip area well
Why these ingredients?
Sugar – Sugar contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids, which help melt away dead skin cells that are “glued” to your skin. By removing extra dead skin cells, you’ll reveal smoother, younger skin underneath. Also, your favorite moisturizers will be able to penetrate better.
Oils – Choose oils that are high in antioxidants for best results. These oils include standard ones you might have on hand right now or essential face oils. Studies suggest that certain essential oils have potent antioxidant properties. 1 Choose varieties like Coconut oil, rosehip seed oil, pomegranate seed oil, ylang ylang flower oil, carrot oil, or jojoba oil. These face oils have excellent antioxidant properties and can help keep the skin around the lips and mouth healthy.
Honey – Honey is a natural humectant, which means it helps draw moisture to your skin. I like to add a drizzle of honey to make the mask thicker, too, so it stays in place.
4. Correcting lip gloss

Mommy Makeup Line Smoothing Gloss

If you use gloss or lipstick everyday, all day, why not choose one that will help protect your lips from aging and instantly plump them up too.
In the picture above I’m wearing the newest shade of STAY PUT lip cream in matt. I love this scarlet Red for special occasions! Click here to watch a video!
Mommy Makeup makes affordable makeup and lip products. They make a thick, cushiony line smoothing lip gloss that lasts for hours. However, I’m not too crazy about the color selection for my skin tone, but I do use it and just mix it with my other favorite lip colors. It does help prevent color bleed and
City Lips Plumping Lip Gloss
This lip gloss “hugged” my lips all day. I don’t know if it was the thickness of the gloss or the anti-aging ingredients, but it’s thick enough to fill in and hide tiny lip lines.
5. SPF lip balm

Of all the lip care tips for healthy, hydrated skin, sunscreen is most important. Not just to keep the skin looking young, but to also help protect against mouth and lip cancers like Actinic Cheilitis.
But how hard is it to keep sunscreen on our lips when we’re laughing, eating, drinking! Even the area above the lips is often forgotten.
I’ve always HATED sunscreens! Until now – I found CoTZ as recommend by my dermatologist for my husband who has rosacea. And now CoTZ make a lip balm too! Luck me!
So I use the CoTZ face sunscreen on my face (making sure to cover the area below my nose (upper lip). And then apply the CoTZ SPF balm as needed throughout the day – especially if I’m outside all day.
This pure and clean (but very protective) mineral-based lip balm is non-greasy, silky smooth, fragrance free, and waterproof for up to 80 minutes.

Beauty Tips for Aging Eyes – Over 40? Try These!

Four simple makeup and beauty tips for aging eyes that will have you looking brighter and more awake than ever.
This also works well if you have puffiness and/or dark circles around the eyes. My favorite go to products anytime I want my eyes to look wider and more awake.
1. Lighten up your eyeliner
Even though you may feel great, your eyes may say something different. As we age our eyes tend to look smaller – giving the face a tired look. So the question I hear often is “What eyeliner is best for tired looking eyes or should I just skip eyeliner makeup all together?”
In my opinion, not wearing eyeliner is as aging as wearing too much. So what to do? Well, you definitely want to skip the heavy eyeliner and shadow. Instead try outlining your upper and lower lids with a light or slightly shimmery creamy eyeliner makeup.
In the picture below, I’ve outlined my upper and lower lids with a shimmery, golden caramel colored eyeliner.
You want to define and brighten your eyes without drawing attention to aging eye issues like puffiness, dark circles, or wrinkles.

I absolutely LOVE this creamy eye shadow which can be used as an eyeliner and cheek highlighter. It’s called AnyWear Cream. This one simple eyeliner makeup has many different uses such as eyeshadow, eyeliner, cheek highlighter and more…
I also like the fact that it’s waterproof, smudge proof, and super creamy so it glides on without settling into creases or lines.
AnyWear Creamy Eye Shadow/Eye Liner
2. Brigthen eye discoloration
As we age the skin around the eyes become thinner allowing the blue/red blood vessels under the skin show through. This can cast a dark/bluish discoloration around the eyes, and especially in the inner corners of the eyes.
The problem finding a good highlighter/concealer for most women over 40 is finding one that is thick enough to provide decent coverage, but not so thick that it settles inside all those tiny lines, and papery skin folds around the delicate eye area.
I found an highlighter pencil, that acts as a light concealer as well as a highlighter because it has two different sides. It’s called the Brow Power Lift Pencil.

This dual sided crayon has a matte conceal on one end and a pearlite highlighter. But not that garish sparkly pearl color – it’s so soft and ever so subtle.
This is one of my favorite beauty tips to brighten aging eyes! Look how my whole upper eye area looks brighter and more awake.
Before After
I use the pearl end of the crayon above and directly below my eyebrows. The magical thing about this crayon is that you never really see the pearlescent color – all you see is light bright illuminated lifted eyebrows.
Then I apply the matte end of the crayon on the inner corners of my eyes and down the side of my nose (along and inside the tear trough). This helps lighten the dark/purplish discoloration in the inner corners of my eyes.

NOTE: This crayon used to be sold at Ulta – but they are ALWAYS out-of-stock. So I get mine on Amazon.

How to use this pencil for eye discoloration
The IT Brow Power Lift is a perfect combination of a soft crayon with a bit of staying power, but not drying. And because the color is so subtle you really don’t have to rub it it….just pat to blend.
Here is what I do:
I draw the crayon in all the areas around the eyes that are discolored or need a lift.
Then wait about 5 minutes to let it warm up and melt into the skin. Then I lightly press my finger in that area to blend in.
Once it warms up to your skin, it sort of melts into the those tiny wrinkles and lines so you really don’t notice the crayon, you just see a highlighted area.
3. Hide aging eye lines
My other favorite product to along with the Brow Lift is the Instant Eye Serum. This lightweight serum softly helps firm up under eye skin and helps mask those tiny crepey lines under the eyes.

It also helps reduce the appearance of puffy eyes. You can see a video of how works here.
Unlike some of the other eye firming/lifting serums I’ve tried the Instant Eye Lift serum dries softly and imparts a slight matte finish to the under eye area and complements the Brow Lift highlighter perfectly. I could not do without these two eye products.
4. Perk up your eye color
No matter how much eye makeup you apply, something seems off. Your eyes just don’t seem as bright as they used. They don’t stand-out or “pop” like they used to.
Well, it could be that your eye color has faded. Just like the hair on your head, studies show that with age, your iris produces less melanin which gives your eyes a nice vivid color.
But there are a few little makeup tricks you can try – using certain eyeshadow color that can help bring back that spark! Click here for more information on Eye Beauty Tips to try when Eye Color Fades.
Beauty tips for aging eyes – putting it all together
Here is how I use these beauty tips for smoother, younger looking eyes
After you’ve applied your makeup:
Smooth the matt end of the Brow Power Lift crayon wherever you have dark circles – which is usually inside the inner corners of the eyes.
Rim the lower and upper eyelids with the AnyWear cream in golden/caramel.
Then smooth a tiny drop of the Instant Eye Lift serum across the under eye area covering any lines, wrinkles or puffiness.
Do you have any special beauty tips for aging eyes? We’d love here about it.  Pease drop me a line and let me know how it works for you.

How to Apply Eyeliner Over 40 – Tips to Wear & Choose eyeliners

How to Apply Eyeliner Over 40: Step by Step Eyeliner Tutorial For Mature Eyes
By Linda Robison

How to apply eyeliner over 40: We’ll show you easy natural looking eyeliner tips for mature eyes, hooded or droopy eyelids, wrinkles, poor vision, or shaky hands.
You’ll also find an eyeliner tutorial for contact lens wearers who find their eyeliner is always leaving residue on contact lenses.
P.S. Click here to skip down to the bottom of the page to see the natural eyeliner tutorial for mature eyes!
Eyeliner can really enhance your features and brighten your face!  But many women over 40, 50, and beyond have a hard time applying eyeliner for many reasons including:
wrinkled or hooded upper eyelids
drooping or sagging upper eyelids
poor vision
shaky hands
don’t know how to apply correctly to enhance mature eyes
are not using the right eyeliner makeup (pencil vs. gel)
But, I’ll show you how to draw eyeliner that’s easy and looks natural.
Why is eyeliner important

As we age everything seems to fade…skin color, hair color, eye color, even eyelashes and eyebrows fade. So a little bit of eyeliner applied correctly can help make us look less tired, enhance eye color and even brighten our whole face!
How to apply eyeliner on upper eyelid
Sometime time after 40, our eyelids start drooping downward. And that combined with loss of facial fat can make our eyes can look hollow or make the corners look turned down (sad look).
I found the best way to frame the eyes without accentuating that downward droop is to apply the liner to the inside at the lash line with little simple tip to bring the corners…
Ok, here is how I apply eyeliner on the upper lid.
Take a clean eyeliner pencil and place it right into the upper inner eyelash line. If you need to you can use your index finger, gently lift the upper eyelid.
No need to worry about winkled eyelids, poor vision, or shaky hands. This defines your upper eyelid and make lashes look thicker too

Make sure the pencil is not too sharp, you want a smooth rounded tip so it glides on the upper eyelid easily and doesn’t hurt or poke your eyelid.
Then run (sort of smudge) the eyeliner back and forth into the eyelash roots along the outer 1/3 of the eye only. Don’t go too far in toward your nose as this can make your eyes seem small and too close together.
The beauty of this eyeliner application if you have poor vision or shaky hands  there is NO need to draw a straight or even line.
You just need to:
press the eyeliner pencil against the inner eyelash line
slide the pencil back and forth a few times until enough color is deposited
Also, it’s a good idea to clean your eyeliner pencil by wiping it with a paper towel moistened with rubbing alcohol. Give it a few minutes to dry before using.
Now give the corner of your eyes a lift up look.
There are all types of eyeliner tips, but this last step can really give your eyes a nice lift and works best if you wear mascara.
Simply draw one line straight up from the end of your eyelash line. When you open your eyes, that line will blend in with your lashes giving the eyes an uplifting appearance.

Don’t draw the line straight out (like cat’s eyes style) as this will most likely draw attention to any sagging of the eyelids. You need to compensate this angle and go up!
Heavy cat’s eyes style eyeliner might work well on 20 somethings, but once the eyelid starts drooping, you need to compensate by drawing the line up toward your eyebrow corners.
I found that by drawing one thin line upward gives the eyes a nice lift.
How angled should that line be? That depends on the shape and amount of laxity in your eyelids. But for most women a small dash angled toward the tail-end of your eyebrow works great. Play around and to see what works best.
Now, just add mascara and your eyes have definition, lift and a bit of pop – without looking over-done or heavy.

Note: If you have issues with sensitive eyes, you might want to skip lining the inner eyelid rim and just apply eyeliner on the outer part of the lids. Skip down to the eyeliner tutorial for easy tips on how to do that.
How to apply eyeliner on lower eyelid
Depending on your eye shape and the condition of you skin, you may be able to wear a little bit of eyeliner on the lower lid. If so, try this tip and see how it looks on you.
Using your index finger, lightly pull your lower eyelid down. Now run the pencil on the 1/3 outer corner only of the inside the lower eyelid rim (water line). If you draw a line from end to end across the lower lid, it can look too harsh.
Now add a little color to the outer lower lids for more definition

Note: Make sure to keep the color deposit very light. You just want a hint of color outlining the lower lid to make your eye stand-out.
Depending on the shape and size of your eyes, some women choose to skip this step completely.
Also, many find some of the eyeliner color from the upper lid will transfer to the lower lid when they blink and this is often enough to provide a light outline for the lower lid.
Why type of eyeliner do I use? A pencil eyeliner that stays on!
When it comes to pencil eyeliners, I prefer a hard waxy pencil (over a soft crayon) because it gives me control on color deposit and stays on all day. My two favorites are: Maybelline Wood Eyeliner Pencil and Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Automatic Pencil.
I have very sensitive eyes and have tried plenty of eyeliners. But for some reason these are the only two pencils that have NEVER irritated my eyes like other “hypoallergenic” eyeliners did.
But, if you still have a problem with disappearing eyeliner, smudges, smears or problems with contact lenses read the tips below on the benefits of gel liners…

Smudge proof eyeliner for contact lenses and other issues
Applying eyeliner to the waterline can be a problem for contact wearers if the residue gets stuck to the rim of the lenses. Others just have issues with eyeliner that’s always smudging, creeping into lines and wrinkles or just melting away.
If this sounds familiar, try these tips:
1. Avoid using soft, thick, crayon-like eyeliner pencils. For example, I love this L’Oreal Smoldering Eyeliner for outlining the top of my upper lid for a natural sexy, smoldering smudge.
But, I would avoid this type of eyeliner on the inside lid (water-line).

Why:
First, it’s hard to control and often deposit too much color.
Second,  it’s so soft and will leave residue on your contact lenses.
Third, it will melt, smudge and disappear too quickly.
However, that being said, this eyeliner works beautifully for on outer upper eyelids. It’s hard to find this at the local drugstore, but you get it on Amazon.

Best eyeliner for all situations
2. The best waterline eyeliner suitable for contact wearers and for those who want a smear-proof, soft natural everyday look is a water-proof gel liner that’s applied with a soft pointed brush. Click on the photos below to see more colors.

A smudge-proof, water-proof eyeliner gel that’s applied with a thin pointed brush is an excellent choice, especially for application control.
Why:
You’ll have more control over the application
It won’t deposit too much color per swipe
It won’t disappear, melt or smudge as quickly
It won’t leave as much residue on your contact lenses
3. If you still have an issue with residue on your contact lenses or smearing, then avoid the waterline all together. Instead try smudging the liner into the root of the eyelashes. This will also make the eyelashes look thicker too. You can see how to do this in the eyeliner tutorial below…

Water-proof Gel Eyeliner – (Best eyeliner for contact lenses!)
Water-proof, smudge-proof gel based eyeliners are very contact lens friendly and will eliminate the problem of your liner disappearing or melting into any eye wrinkles, folds or hooded eyelids.
But, some feel it can look intense and harsh and I agree. Well, here is an eyeliner tutorial for a natural everyday look. And, if you want to “glam-it-up” you’ll see how you can add the liner above the lashes and into the waterline for more effect.

What I like about this eyeliner is it won’t dry immediately so you have time to wipe away and first time mistakes. And of all the gel eyeliners I’ve tried, this brand NEVER irritates my eyes. You can check out all the different gel eyeliner colors offered by Mommy Makeup here.

How to apply eyeliner final tips
Remember, there is no wrong or right way to apply eyeliner. How you apply it or what type of eyeliner you use all depends on many factors like your eye shape and what issues you may have.  it’s a matter of what works best for you.
A Note About Hard Wax Eyeliner Pencils: Some complain that hard-waxy type eyeliners are difficult to apply because they don’t depositing enough color, especially when they’re brand new. So here is what you can do:
Try warming it up a bit, by placing the tip into the palm of your hand for a few minutes, the color will glide on more easily.
Or, consider rolling the tip between your fingers (make sure your fingers/hands are clean) for a few seconds.
If you have any eye issues or medical conditions, always consult with an ophthalmologist before applying eyeliner or eye makeup.

Before You Go…What’s Going On With Your Eyebrows?

Well defined eyes need full-looking eyebrows to help frame the face and provide a more youthful, approachable face. Thin, spare, barely-there eyebrows can make you look older, washed-out, or tired.

Beware of Free Trials for Anti-Aging Products – an Investigative Report

Get the Facts on Free Trials for Beauty Creams Have you been scammed by a free trial for an anti-aging cream? Keep reading! In this review about free trials, I’ll give you tips on how to cancel and hopefully get your money back! Before I go any further – if you’re looking for a phone number to cancel a free trial, please check for the number on my latest blog post: Skin Care Free Trials – Phone Numbers for Cancellations Free Trials – How the Ads Lure you In You’ve probably seen the alluring ads with captivating headlines such as “Dr. Oz Calls this a Miracle Cream,” or “Katie Couric’s Backstage Secret,” or “Shhhh Don’t Tell Covergirl.” The latest scam is the “as seen on Shark Tank” creams. Stories of women who “accidentally” discovered a miracle breakthrough in anti-aging by using one cream at night, and another cream in the morning. Honestly though, who doesn’t want to find a miracle cream to reverse the hands of time overnight? Unfortunately, there is a very deceptive, dark side to these offers, one that most people miss and don’t discover until they notice the exorbitant and monthly recurring charges appear on their credit card statements, leaving them feeling scammed and frustrated. In this article I will articulate how this new wave of “short-term” (12-14 day) free trials suck you in, how they function, and why I don’t like 99% of them. My Interviews with CBS I was interviewed by Cristin Severance with CBS 11 in Dallas, Texas about Beauty Cream Free Trials (watch it here).  Cristin is a Consumer Justice Investigator and has won 7 Emmy Awards! I was also interview by Bettie Cross of with CBS Austin, TX (watch it here or click the video below). Educating yourself on how these supposed free trials actually work is your best defense against being taken for what can sometimes add up to hundreds of dollars! The Combo Free Trial Offer Back to the combination offer. In the example I used above, the combination free trial offer was BioGeniste Wrinkle Reducer and Dermal Meds. But I could literally cut and paste about 100 different wrinkle creams in their place because the ads are IDENTICAL, and they often rotate. “Avonlea and Pristine,” “Nuvalift and Puravol,” Bellalabs and Dermaperfect,” “Absolute Rejuven and Absolute Derma,” “Splendyr Instant Wrinkle Reducer and Levela Anti-Aging Cream,” “Luminelle and Alleure.” There are so many that I can’t possibly list them all but some of these may ring a bell. They all follow the same story line, usually referencing a celebrity and also a normal lady with the likeness of “Brenda” who by accident, discovered that by using one cream in the morning and one cream at night, she obtained miraculous results. And before you know it, you’re ordering your free trials of both creams. Sound familiar? Be weary of any offer that won’t let you proceed to checkout without agreeing to order a second or third eye cream or serum in order to get the cream you’re trying to order – huge red flag! The Allure of Looking Younger Overnight As women, we want to find a cure for our wrinkles to look young and vibrant again, and wouldn’t it be nice to find something that works overnight?  Or in two weeks? Take for example, the picture of this woman on the right “Brenda,” who I’ve seen in numerous ads for various wrinkle creams lately, she’s a poster girl for these scams. This particular ad is promoting a combination free trial of BioGeniste Wrinkle Reducer and Dermal Meds, and Brenda claims that she obtained these results by using these two products in combination. I’m sorry to say, but there is no wrinkle cream, or combination of, that will give you this type of result, and this happens to be  a photo-shopped image purchased on a popular website called “shutterstock.” Do Celebrities Really Endorse Wrinkle Creams? No, they don’t! These scam companies claim celebrities such as Sandra Bullock, Ellen Degeneres, Katie Couric, Christie Brinkley – even Queen Kate – use these creams to obtain their ageless skin – and the “proof” seems nothing short of amazing in the before and after pics. But I can assure you, none of these Hollywood stars promote any of these fly-by-night wrinkle creams scams, much less use these garbage creams. There are also Youtube clips placed conveniently for credibility, but irrelevantly. For example, there is one video of Ellen Degeneres floating around to boost the claim that she’s promoting a specific eye cream, but if you watch the video you will realize that she’s merely doing a comedy stand up act where she jokes about what a klutz she is when she uses an eye cream (in a general sense). What about Dr. Oz Wrinkle Creams? If a picture of Dr. Oz (or any other celebrity) is in a wrinkle cream ad, it must be true right?  WRONG, think again! Dr. Oz is plagiarized more than anyone on the web! These scam artists use his pictures, video clips, fake quotes, anything to make you believe that Dr. Oz is recommending them. In this picture of Dr. Oz and Oprah, they state that Oprah is retiring to pursue her new skin care line with Dr. Oz. This is a flat out lie, please don’t believe them.  Dr. Oz does not, I repeat DOES NOT have his own skin care line, cream or serum. These crooks can say anything they want, don’t believe their false advertisements! I’m not trying to be mean about this, it’s not your fault that there are liars and crooks out there, I’m just trying to help open your eyes so you won’t fall for it. I get countless emails every day from women saying “I ordered Dr. Oz’s serum and now he billed me $90, what a jerk for being involved in these scams.” Truth is he’s NOT responsible, because these are not his creams. These are crooks and liars using his name to sell their products! Skin Care Free Trials – Phone Numbers for Cancellations Shark Tank Ads, Angelina Jolie, Kelly Rippa – The List Goes On Don’t fall for the latest “as seen on Shark Tank” creams. These ads are all over Facebook and they are bogus. Beware of ANY ADS for creams on Facebook and always scroll to the bottom to read the terms and conditions. And Kelly Rippa is NOT quitting her show to “focus on her skin care line full time.” Nor is Angelina Jolie launching a new skin care line to help her recover from her divorce. This is nothing short of deceptive and misleading advertising. Flat out lies.  How Does a Free Trial Actually Work? “Free trials” are NOT free. When you sign up for a free trial, you’re not only giving them all of your personal information, i.e. name, address, phone, email, but you are REQUIRED to enter your credit card information to accept the free trial (to pay for the shipping). Oftentimes, the fine print is so far down the page that you won’t see it unless you scroll down, and most people don’t even notice it, and therein lies the problem – most don’t know what they’re signing up for! These scams I’m warning you about are garbage and their phones don’t even work half the time, and there is a HUGE difference in quality.  By accepting the free trial, you are agreeing to try the product for 12-14 days (this is what I refer to as a short-term free trial, which 99% of them are). On the 14th day, you will be billed for the full price of the wrinkle cream that you received (usually about $90, and you can double that if it’s a combo offer), and subsequently billed 30 days later for another month’s supply. In the example below for Puravol (copied and pasted from their website, had to scroll down to find it), the trial period is only 12 days, and on the 12th day you’ll be billed $99.15, and billed $99.15 every 30 days thereafter. The problems with most free trials are as follows, some are shocking! 12-14 days is hardly enough time to receive the product, much less try it for a long enough time period to decide whether you like it or not. In my experience, companies who offer a 30 day trial usually have good products, and there are very few of them. Most people don’t realize that they will be billed on the 12th day for the full product amount (normally around $90), and each month thereafter (double for a combo offer) most of these companies are IMPOSSIBLE to reach by phone to cancel, and sometimes publish non-existent phone numbers many of these companies are fly-by-night, and you won’t be able to “return the unused product for a refund,” because…… many of these companies are based in countries without an extradition policy (i.e. Venezuela, Panama, Pakistan), meaning they run their scams and sucker people out of their money, and we, as consumers, have no recourse other than cancelling our credit cards with our banks altogether to get out of the recurring arrangement many of these companies, once the negative publicity starts to surface, package up their products in new boxes and slap a new name on it, and run the scams all over again most of these companies don’t fully disclose their ingredients list which is not a good sign, this usually means it’s nothing special or else they’d want to brag about it beware of filling out surveys with “free gifts” involved, as these often lead to wrinkle cream scams (even on well known websites) the billing company company name will NOT match the scam cream you buy online…another method to thwart you from contacting them or not noticing the charge. What You Can Do To Fight Back – Please help me share this! First of all, would you do me the favor of “liking” me on Facebook? If I’ve helped you in some way, you can leave me a review on Facebook and I would be grateful.  More importantly, share this article on Facebook with your friends and family! Alert them to these scams! You can share it by clicking the Facebook share icon on the left hand side of your screen or at the bottom of this article, or copy and paste the URL link and post to your Facebook page. Tips for cancelling trials: First and Foremost, you need to call the Cream Manufacturer and request they cancel your ongoing subscription and demand a refund. Check for the number on my most recent blog post Skin Care Free Trials – Cancellation Phone Numbers. I’ve compiled this list over the last few years and have over 350 companies! If you don’t find the phone number on my list, call your bank to ask if they have a number (look for the s&h charge since it will be billed under a different company name than the actual cream you ordered). BE FIRM WHEN YOU CALL TO CANCEL – If they are not cooperative, threaten to report them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), your states Attorney General’s office and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). Don’t agree to their 30% or even 50% refund or a $35 restocking fee. BE FIRM.  Ask to speak to a supervisor – don’t take NO for an answer. To put it simply – put on your boxing gloves if you don’t usually wear them.  Continue to hold. Sometimes getting through takes half an hour or more! They put you in an endless loop of being on hold so that you’ll get frustrated and hang up. Ask for a cancellation confirmation by email. This way you’ll have something to show your bank if they continue to bill you. If none of this works, contact your bank to dispute the charges by filing a fraud dispute. Sometimes they will reverse all the charges and put a block on them. You’re better off using a credit…

Rent or buy? 20 years of falling mortgage rates have the answer – Movement Mortgage Blog

Mortgage rates are the heartbeat of our business, offering the greatest insight into whether homeownership is affordable.
So it’s no surprise that when headlines scream that rates are on the rise while others declare that rates are historically low, borrowers have questions and concerns.
Historic context is key to understanding how rates behave. The downward trend of rates the last 20 years proves that buying a home truly is a better option than renting. Here’s how.
First, what are mortgage rates?
Just like any loan or line of credit, mortgages come with interest, which, of course, is the cost of borrowing money. A host of market factors beyond the lender’s control determine what those rates are, including activity on the bond market and how apt investors are to buy mortgages bundled as securities.
This process and how it plays out on the secondary mortgage market is intricate. Check out this blog to learn more.
Now, the history lesson. Here are three things you should know about the nature of mortgage rates over the last two decades.
1) Rates have been falling for years
We’ll use the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage as a benchmark since they’re the most popular home loan option in the U.S. and often used as a basis for news and research findings. Take a look at this chart from one our traders here at Movement.
This chart shows the ebb and flow of mortgage rates over the last 20 years.
It shows that rates on 30-year mortgages peaked at just over 8 percent in 2000; they were as high as 18 percent in the early 1980s. Rates have been on a steady decline over the last 20 years. Sure, there have been ups and downs — the most dramatic of which was the credit crisis that drove rates to historical lows. But rates, overall, are influenced by economic activity, inflation and monetary policy.
2) Buying a home was a bargain back then. It still is today.
Need proof? Let’s crunch some hypothetical numbers.
In June 2000, the median price of a home was $140,000 and the rate on a 30-year mortgage was 8 percent. If a borrower financed this at a 90 percent , the principal and interest payment was approximately $925 a month. Compare that to 2017 when the median  price of a home is $245,000 and the 30-year mortgage rate is 3.8 percent. If a borrower finances this at a 90 percent loan-to-value, the principal and interest payment would be approximately $1,025 a month. This shows that in the span of 17 years, the average mortgage payment has increased by just $100 on principal and interest only. This does not take into consideration property taxes and insurance, which vary across different states.
Rental rates, meanwhile, continue to rise with no sign of slowing down. Last year, the Wall Street Journal reported that rent in 2015 increased 4.6 percent to approximately $1,180, up from $1,125 a year earlier. Put that in perspective: Rent went up about $60 in the span of a year, exceeding the average cost of a mortgage, while the cost of owning a home went up $100 over a much longer timeframe.
The bottom line: Homeownership over time is a better investment and more affordable than renting.
Median sales price for existing-home sales since 1999. Courtesy of Bloomberg.
3) Rates will rise again
It’s inevitable. As the economy strengthens, mortgage rates are going to rise, potentially reaching 5 percent by 2019, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.
The Fed’s changing of the guard will influence rates. In February, Jerome “Jay” Powell will succeed Janet Yellen as the Fed chair. Powell shares a similar cautious outlook on rates as Yellen. But he also favors deregulation, which should help the economy grow faster. That will cause rates to go up. And as the economy expands, which it seems poised to do, the Fed will hike rates to balance growth and inflation.
Rising rates will impact total mortgage originations next year. What does this mean for Movement? The MBA currently forecasts that total originations for 2018 will decrease by approximately $90 billion to $1.597 trillion. However, purchase money mortgages will increase by approximately $80 billion to $1.167 trillion. This makes for a great opportunity for Movement Mortgage as more than 90% of the loans we close are mortgages to purchase a home.
Inflation slowly rising
This week saw the release of monthly data that gave us insight into inflation. Let’s take a look.
CPI: The Consumer Price Index rose 0.1 percent in October as the bump in gasoline prices a month earlier began to subside. The CPI measures changes in the price of consumer goods. Gas prices fell 2.4 percent after rocketing 13.1 percent in September, its largest increase since June 2009.
PPI: S. producer prices rose 0.4 percent last month, beating economists’ expectations of 0.1 percent. The PPI, or Producer Price Index, details the average change in selling prices from the perspective of domestic producers. A rise in food prices propped the PPI in October, creating the biggest yearly increase in wholesale inflation in nearly six years, according to CNBC.
Retail sales:S. retail sales rose 0.2 percent, exceeding the expectations of analysts who didn’t expect a change from September to October. Why the bump? Economists believe a boost in the purchase of motor vehicles elevated retail sales as consumer spending remained fairly strong throughout the third quarter.
 Happy Thanksgiving
Let’s take a break. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by friends and family, good food, football and, if it’s your thing, a bountiful Black Friday (check out this fun quiz that’ll tell you what kind of Black Friday shopper you are). Enjoy the holiday. Market Update will return Dec. 1. […]

Homeownership and the new tax plan – Movement Mortgage Blog

By now you’ve likely heard Congress recently passed a tax reform bill. What you may not know is how homeowners will be impacted in the New Year. If you’re in the market to buy or already own your home, here’s how the new tax plan will impact you in 2018 and beyond:
Deductions to your deductions
Arguably the most significant change to the tax plan is in how many interest deductions are now available to homeowners. The new plan impacts the following deductions:
Mortgage interest. Previously, qualified homeowners could reduce their taxable income by the amount of mortgage interest they paid each year – up to one million dollars for married couples filing jointly ($500k for married couples filing separately)
Mortgage interest is still tax deductible with the new plan, but only up to $750k for married couples filing jointly ($375k for married filing separately). This change impacts all homes purchased after December 15, 2017 and is also applicable to mortgages on second homes.
While this change may not be a big deal for US cities where the average price of a home is approximately $250k, for more expensive cities (think: New York and Los Angeles), it’s a significant decrease.
Notably, there are a few exceptions to this law, so be sure to speak with your accountant and/or mortgage lender to understand how you will personally be impacted.

Property tax. The new bill now includes restrictions on the amount of property tax you can deduct from your taxable income. Now, homeowners may deduct up to $10k in property taxes ($5k for couples filing separately), including state and local income taxes or sales taxes.
Home equity. With the former tax plan, homeowners could deduct the interest paid on home equity debt for reasons other than to renovate your home (like for college expenses, for example). The home equity deduction was completely eliminated with the new tax plan.
Moving expenses. The old plan included deductions for qualified homeowners relocating for a new job. Now, moving expenses are only deductible for active duty members of the armed forces.

To itemize, or not to itemize.
Another significant change: an increase in the standard tax deductions (or, the flat amount that the tax system lets homeowners deduct, no questions asked).
Beginning in 2018, the standard deductions per household nearly doubles, increasing from $12,700 to $24k (for married couples who file jointly).
This change means more Americans will likely forego itemizing their taxes this year. In previous years, itemizing typically resulted in more money in your pocket at refund time. Now, you may be able to save time by not itemizing and still benefit financially.
Ultimately, the new tax plan will impact every taxpayer differently. Even with the lower interest deductions, the bill introduces new tax brackets, which could reduce your individual tax rate and increase your paycheck.
How you are personally impacted is contingent upon various factors beyond homeownership. Be sure to talk to your tax professional to know exactly how this new tax plan will affect you and your family.
